A Resolution Update

So here we are at the end of January, finishing the first month of 2012.  To recap, at the beginning of the month, I made a few resolutions.  They were:

1.  Run in at least 5 races this year
2.  Make a new recipe each week
3.  Update this blog more than once a month

So far, I've still only signed up for 2 races, but I think I have mapped out my other 3 choices, so I think that resolution is doable.  As for the new recipe, this one has been a little more difficult.  One week, I had to make 2 new recipes because I missed one the week prior.  But I want to keep on schedule, if I can.  And for this blog, I've been averaging at least a blog a week this month.  So that's not too bad.  I tend to always want to write the "perfect" blog, although I don't even know what that is, so then I put off writing it because I don't know what to write.  I need to just write and not worry about it.  Perhaps that will get easier in time.

On another note, we had a fun play date with our friends Owen and Nora this past weekend.  I meant to take more pictures of the fun, but I guess I was too busy talking to Loren (their dad) to take pics.  I did manage one of Daniel and Owen sitting down to have lunch.  Anyway, it was fun, and I hope we can play with them again sometime.

I love my kids.  This short blog is a shout-out to them!

A little blurry, but I love how this shows how much Daniel loves his baby brother.

Not Ready Yet

I've often heard, "Do not buy anything nice while you have [young] children."  And while I've always known this to be true, we witnessed it first hand this past week.  Here's what happened.  About 2 weeks ago, our VCR died.  The reason this is important is because our TV only works through the VCR.  So now, our TV didn't work.  We discussed whether we should buy another VCR (which is getting harder to find these days) which is cheaper or to invest in a new TV, since we know we need to get a new one eventually.  After a few days of discussion and checking out TV's & VCR's, we decided to buy a new TV.  Now today, the only TV's available to buy are flat screen TV's.  This will date us when you discover that our old TV is not a flat screen, so it was rather exciting to think of finally walking into the next century and updating our technology a bit.  We bought a less expensive model though, brought it home, and it worked!  It was all very fun...for a week.  This last weekend, the boys were playing too close to the new TV, which was on a stand and not mounted on the wall, when one of the boys knocked it off the stand and it tipped over.  Immediately we knew something was wrong when the screen was scratchy and blurry.  I felt depressed and upset right away as I realized now we were no longer with a TV that worked, but that we might also be out the money we spent "investing" in a new TV.  The next day, Jeff took the TV back, told them what happened, and they refunded our money.  (So Thankful!) The day after that, I bought a used VCR, hooked it up to our old TV, and now it works again.  We realized through this whole experience many things, but most of all, we are not ready for a flat screen TV (or at least we would need to mount it to the wall).  Lesson learned: we won't be buying anything new, or at least nice, until the boys are older.

A Little Look Back

Christmas Time this year was very busy for us.  I am a little behind in posting pics from our Christmas.  So I thought I would take this opportunity to highlight some of our fun from Christmas this year.  We celebrated Christmas Eve with Grandpa & Grandma Y., Aunt Debbie & Uncle Todd, & Aunt Cheryl.  We hosted everyone over here, exchanged presents & had a nice meal.  On Christmas day we went over to Grandma & Grandpa Y.'s house.  All of the extended family who could make it joined us for a yummy dinner and catching up and visiting.  Then, the day after Christmas, my parents drove over from CDA.  We had one more exchanging of presents.  So we were really able to spread the joy of Christmas out over 3 days.  The boys had so much fun, and it was really great to see everyone.
